Halloween dates all the way back to the ancient Celtic festival of samhain. The Celtic think of it as when the ghosts of the dead returned to earth.
While the Celtics celebration goes on the wore costumes usually of animal heads and skins and told each other fortunes. When the European immigrants came to America they brought along the costumes. As it kept going on soon the Americans stated going from door to door asking for food or money.
The jack-o-lantern came to America by the irish myth about a man named "stingy jack". From then on the name jack-o-lantern stayed with it and became an American tradition to carve a pumpkin on halloween. Thats all i no about the history of halloween. Actually if you refer to the article i found, the jack-o-lantern was originated from a villan named Jack. Neither God or the devil wanted him. He was often denied to a place of rest. His only heat was a candle out of a turnip. But thats just what i have heard. It could be right or wrong. I dont know.
♥Peace
